General:

Main hub for the region and the only airport to serve the capital

Appearance:

The airport is undergoing massive building and renovation works and at the time of travelling large parts of it were being demolished.

Inbound

Domestic
International and Domestic flights are all dealt with in the same areas

International
As the airport was undergoing rebuilding the plane parked on the airfield and we had to be bussed to the terminal. From the large immigration hall you pass down a small passage that also houses baggage belt 7 into the main baggage reclaim hall. From there it’s through a set of swing doors and out into the main arrivals hall

Very efficient and polite staff in a large, but slightly dingy hall

The walk between immigration and the main baggage hall actually takes you past belt 7. The main hall is large and light

As I was flying within the EU you pass a window where I assume they are checking you have the correct baggage tags, but then it’s through a set of swing doors and out into the main arrivals hall

The half hourly 'City Airport Train' runs from underneath the arrivals terminal to the city centre. The airport is also on the (much cheaper) S7 suburban railway line

The vast checkin halls lead through to a security desk where boarding cards are checked before travellers enter the central departures hall. The airport then splits into several piers each of which has its own selection of shops cafés and bars. Travelling outside the Schengen area you pass through passport control to access the pier that these flights leave from. Security screening is done at each individual gate

There are several café/bars on both land and airside

There are several café/bars on both land and airside

There are a couple of restaurants on the land side and the café/bars on airside sell a range of food

Vienna appears to have taken its queue from BAA in the UK and more of the airport is shopping mall than anything else

The toilets are clean
